The Star Sign of Gemini & Typical Gemini Traits

Whether you believe in love at first sight or that we are not alone on this planet, the majority of us have felt a sense of wonder at things we cannot explain.

The Gemini Star Sign

People born between May 21 and June 21 fall under the Gemini star sign. They are a mutable sign, like Aquarius and Libra, and are associated with the element air. Geminis reside in the third section of the zodiac (60° to 90°), which revolves around the sun's orbit and is divided into twelve constellations. The star sign itself is an open triangle with the northeast corners marked by the particularly bright stars Castor and Pollux.

In Greek mythology, Castor and Polydeukes (Pollux in Latin) were Leda's sons. Polydeukes, as Zeus' son, was immortal. Castor, on the other hand, was a human—the son of Spartan king Tyndareos. One day, the two half-siblings got into a fight, and only Polydeukes survived. Polydeukes, devastated by his brother's death, asked Zeus to make Castor immortal. Zeus was impressed by Polydeukes' love and devotion and granted his wish, immortalising the brothers in the sky so they could live forever as twins.

According to Claudius Ptolemy, a Greek astrologer and mathematician, Gemini is a masculine sign ruled by Mercury, our solar system's smallest planet and the closest to the sun. In Roman mythology, Mercury — or "Mercurius" in Latin — was the god of commerce and profit. The ancient Greeks, on the other hand, gave him the name Hermes, or god's messenger. Mercury is the patron saint of merchants and thieves, and he is known for his cunning and ingenuity in communicating with and persuading others.

Given these two stories, it's not surprising that the Gemini zodiac sign is said to have two souls.

Typical Traits of a Gemini

If there is one star sign that excels at rhetoric, it is Gemini. People born under this sign are communicative, articulate, and social, with a strong desire for interpersonal exchange. Geminis are extremely curious, have a wide range of interests, and are constantly looking for the latest trend. Whether it's sustainable investments or NFT art, Geminis will likely be the first to know.

As an air sign, Geminis practically inhale new information and pay more attention to their heads than their guts. Because they are so passionate about so many things, they rarely delve deeply into one topic and prefer to keep things varied. This means they have extensive general knowledge about a wide range of topics and can easily navigate and connect different disciplines. In theory, they'd make excellent diplomats—except that they tend to reveal too much information in the heat of the moment! Geminis are also known for embellishing the truth to entertain their friends. These social butterflies thrive in large groups and enjoy entertaining friends with stories and anecdotes.

It is worth noting that this description applies to anyone with a Gemini rising sign or a Gemini moon. So, if you want to delve deeper into astrology, use an online calculator to determine where the other planets are in your birth chart. But now let's look at the main characteristics of a Gemini.
